WOMEN OF COURAGE INC.
2009 ANNUAL REPORT
HISTORY, STRUCTURE AND ADMINISTRATION
Women of Courage was created May 1993, on Mother’s Day weekend, by Mrs. Darlene Harris. A member of Radiant Church Assembly of God in Colorado Springs, Colorado, she shared her burden and God-given plan for ministry to single mom families with her Senior Pastor, Don Steiger. She received overwhelming support. Seventeen moms and their children attended the first monthly meeting. Moms attended from other churches within the community or with no church affiliation. As the ministry grew, Radiant Church provided office space and one staff support person.
By 2001, Women of Courage had reached peak attendance; 80 moms and 170 children. Monthly meetings have been the mainstay activity providing spiritual, emotional and physical support.
To promote expansion throughout the community, Radiant Church and other supporters suggested the ministry incorporate as a non-profit organization. Goldberg Law Center drafted the application. U>S> Internal Revenue Service approved non-profit status, July 5, 2001, retroactive to February 7, 2001.
On March 27, 2006 Women of Courage Inc. was granted permanent non-profit status by the IRS under section 501 (c) (3) as a public charity. EIN – 84-1576866.
